About Me
I am an Assistant Professor at New Jersey Institute of Technology in the Department of Information Systems, College of Computing Sciences.
I research social computing and social software (fun stuff like instant messaging and social networking sites). I am particularly interested in how the next generation of social software which leverages devices such as cell phones and large touch screens can be used to connect people together. The project that I direct SmartCampus is trying to do just that, provide hardware and software to students to better connect them to other students and the NJIT campus.
I also teach about the stuff that I research. I teach a graduate courses about pervasive computing (computing off the desktop on phones, touchscreens, wearables, etc.) from a human computer interaction (how to provide a good user experience) perspective and a course about CSCWS/Social Computing. I also teach undergraduates about my field through a ubiquitous computing design studio. If you are interested in a research experience in this area (for credit or otherwise) please contact one of the SmartCampus lab managers.
My work experience includes - usability research in the Human Computer Interaction Group at AT&T Labs-Research; web development including building the first web site for the Israeli Defense Forces; public health research and advocacy through Sydney University's Public Health Department and QUIT (a federally funded national public health program); Medical Psychology Research as part of the Medical Psychology Unit, Department of Medicine, University of Sydney; and even as a financial analyst at PRCG.
